Portugal is moving closer to the construction of a significant multimodal logistics park, valued at €468 million, which will include its own rail freight terminal. This project is strategically located on the Lisbon–Sines corridor, aiming to bolster the country's intermodal transport infrastructure.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies improved inland connectivity for cargo moving through the Port of Sines. The new rail freight terminal is expected to streamline the transfer of goods between sea and rail, potentially reducing transit times and offering more efficient routing options for shipments to and from the Iberian Peninsula. Enhanced intermodal capabilities could also lead to greater capacity and potentially more competitive rates for certain lanes, especially for bulk and containerized cargo destined for or originating from the Portuguese interior and wider European network.
