The Ports of Indiana has been awarded a $25 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) under the BUILD program. This substantial funding is designated to support a $32 million expansion initiative at the Jeffersonville port, representing the largest federal grant ever received by the Ports of Indiana.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this port expansion signifies potential improvements in regional cargo handling capabilities. Increased capacity and modernized infrastructure at Jeffersonville could lead to more efficient inland waterway connections and improved multimodal freight options, particularly for cargo moving through the Ohio River Valley. This development may enhance routing flexibility and potentially reduce transit times for certain shipments in the area.
