Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" LINE) has announced the delivery of two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, Puteri Johor and Puteri Kedah. The Puteri Johor was delivered on May 29, 2026, followed by its sister vessel, Puteri Kedah, on June 30, 2026. Both vessels were constructed at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. in China.
These new additions will operate under a long-term charter agreement with PETRONAS LNG Ltd. The deliveries mark an expansion of K Line's fleet dedicated to LNG transport, supporting PETRONAS's energy logistics needs.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the addition of these specialized LNG carriers signifies stable, long-term capacity for gas shipments. While not directly impacting container or general cargo rates, it reinforces the dedicated infrastructure for energy supply chains, potentially freeing up other vessel types for different commodities or trade lanes if demand shifts. It also highlights ongoing investment in specialized shipping sectors.
