Hempel, a company specializing in marine coatings, has announced the appointment of Eric Alström as its new Group President and CEO. Alström brings more than 30 years of international executive leadership experience to the role. He previously held the position of Vice Chair of Hempel's Board of Directors from 2017 to 2024, indicating a familiarity with the company's operations and strategic direction.
Alström takes over from Michael Hansen, who recently moved to become the President and CEO of the shipping and logistics firm DFDS. Before joining Hempel in this new capacity, Alström served as President of the Power Solutions business segment at Danfoss.
For freight forwarders and supply chain professionals, this news primarily represents a corporate leadership change within a key supplier to the maritime industry. While not directly impacting freight rates, capacity, or routing, it signifies a strategic shift for a company that provides essential materials for vessel maintenance and performance. Changes in leadership at a major coatings provider could, in the long term, influence product development, sustainability initiatives, or supply chain strategies for marine paints, which indirectly affects vessel efficiency and operational costs for carriers.
