GTT announced in the second quarter of 2026 that it has been awarded a contract by Jiangnan Shipyard. The agreement involves GTT providing the design for the cryogenic tanks of four new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers. These vessels are being built for the ship-owner COSCO Shipping Energy and each will feature a total cargo capacity of 175,000 cubic meters.
This order highlights continued investment in the LNG shipping sector, driven by global energy demands and the transition towards cleaner fuels. GTT specializes in containment systems for the transport and storage of liquefied gases, making their technology crucial for such newbuild projects.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the expansion of the global LNG carrier fleet signifies growing capacity for gas transportation. While not directly impacting container or general cargo rates, it reflects broader trends in energy logistics and could indirectly influence demand for associated project cargo movements related to LNG infrastructure. Increased LNG supply can also affect bunker fuel markets in the long term, as LNG is an increasingly adopted alternative marine fuel.
