The Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia has introduced a €2 million funding program to foster innovation, sustainability, and electrification within its marinas. This initiative is supported by Aqua superPower, a specialist in fast-charging infrastructure. The first project under this program has been successfully implemented at Portopiccolo, featuring a 75 kW Aqua superPower marine fast charger for electric boats, complemented by two 22 kW chargers for electric vehicles.
This program is designed to serve as a model for future electrification efforts across the region and potentially beyond. For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, while this specific news does not directly impact global freight rates or capacity, it signifies a broader trend towards sustainable infrastructure development in maritime regions. Increased electrification in ports and marinas, even smaller ones, contributes to overall decarbonization goals and could eventually influence bunkering strategies or port call requirements for vessels with electric propulsion capabilities, albeit on a much larger scale than this initial program.
