The Dutch transport sector recorded a substantial increase in bankruptcies in June 2026, with figures more than tripling compared to the same period last year. This trend highlights a challenging economic environment for logistics companies in the Netherlands. Although the total number of bankruptcies across all sectors in the country saw a slight decrease of nearly 4% in June 2026 compared to June 2025, the transport and logistics segment bucked this trend with a significant rise in insolvencies.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this surge in bankruptcies within the Dutch transport sector could lead to several implications. It may result in reduced capacity, particularly for road freight services, as smaller carriers exit the market. This could, in turn, put upward pressure on domestic transport rates and lead to potential disruptions in supply chains relying on Dutch logistics providers. Forwarders might need to conduct more thorough due diligence on their carrier partners to mitigate risks associated with financial instability.
