Damen has confirmed a new contract with Seaspan for the construction of two ASD Tug 2813 vessels. These tugs are specifically designed to support the operations of HaiSea Marine, a joint venture, in British Columbia's growing marine and terminal sector. The vessels will be equipped with a 70-tonne bollard pull capacity, winterization features, and advanced firefighting capabilities, making them suitable for demanding operational environments.
This acquisition aims to significantly enhance HaiSea Marine's fleet, providing increased power and specialized functions to manage larger vessels and more complex terminal operations. The addition of these tugs is particularly relevant for the region's expanding liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities and other industrial projects that require robust marine support.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signals improved port efficiency and reliability in British Columbia. The enhanced tug capabilities could facilitate smoother vessel movements, especially for larger ships, potentially reducing turnaround times and improving schedule adherence for cargo operations in the area. This investment reflects ongoing growth in the Canadian West Coast's maritime infrastructure.
The new tugs are expected to enter service in 2027, contributing to the long-term operational stability and capacity of HaiSea Marine's services.
