Louisiana-based Conrad Shipyard and South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries have jointly secured Approval in Principle (AiP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for their design of a 12,000 cubic meter (cbm) LNG bunkering articulated tug and barge (ATB). This achievement was announced during the opening of the Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Partnership Center (KUSPC).
Conrad Shipyard stated that this AiP signifies the successful development of a vessel concept specifically intended for construction within the United States. The collaboration builds upon an existing framework between Conrad and Samsung Heavy Industries, aiming to advance shipbuilding capabilities and support the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the development of new LNG bunkering vessel designs, especially those intended for US construction, indicates a strengthening infrastructure for alternative marine fuels.
