This increase appears to be a direct consequence of a sharper $89/metric ton gain in the price of conventional VLSFO at the port of Rotterdam. Similarly, the B30-LSMGO blend experienced a $104/metric ton price increase, likely influenced by a substantial $201/metric ton surge in the port's conventional LSMGO price.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, these price movements indicate a potential rise in bunkering costs for vessels utilizing biofuel blends in European ports, particularly Rotterdam. While biofuels offer environmental benefits, their pricing remains closely tied to conventional fuel markets. This could lead to higher operational expenses for carriers, which may eventually be passed on to shippers through increased freight rates or bunker adjustment factors (BAF). Forwarders should monitor these trends to anticipate cost impacts on their supply chains and advise clients accordingly, especially those committed to greener shipping initiatives.
