Most of the MPET terminal within the Port of Antwerp-Bruges experienced a closure on Wednesday evening due to a hydrofluoric acid leak. The incident originated from a container aboard the vessel MSC Mia Summer II, which released toxic fumes. This disruption led to significant operational challenges at the terminal, affecting the movement of cargo and potentially causing delays for vessels calling at the port.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this partial closure means immediate re-routing considerations and potential delays for shipments scheduled through MPET. Capacity at the terminal will be reduced, leading to possible congestion and extended dwell times for containers. Forwarders should proactively communicate with their carriers and clients regarding revised schedules and alternative logistics arrangements to mitigate impact.
