The first stage of the modernization project for the Font de Sant Lluís intermodal terminal, situated close to the Port of Valencia, is approaching its operational readiness. This upgrade is crucial as it will allow the terminal to accommodate trains running on both the Iberian gauge (1,668 mm) and the European standard gauge (1,435 mm). The ability to switch between gauges at this strategic location is expected to streamline rail freight movements to and from the port.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development means improved intermodal connectivity for shipments moving through the Port of Valencia. The dual-gauge capability will reduce the need for transshipment or complex gauge-changing procedures further inland, potentially leading to faster transit times and reduced operational costs for rail-based cargo. It also opens up new possibilities for direct rail links with the broader European network, enhancing Valencia's position as a multimodal logistics hub. This could translate into more reliable and efficient supply chain options for shippers utilizing this corridor.
