Norwegian shipowner Simon Møkster Shipping has finalized a new frame agreement with oil and gas producer Aker BP for the ongoing provision of Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) services. Under this arrangement, Aker BP will charter vessels from Simon Møkster's fleet to fulfill its operational requirements. The agreement is set for an initial duration of four years, with provisions for two additional two-year extension options.
This deal provides Simon Møkster Shipping with a stable revenue stream and consistent utilization for its PSV fleet, which are crucial for supporting offshore oil and gas installations. For Aker BP, it ensures reliable access to essential support vessels for its offshore activities in the North Sea.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this type of long-term contract in the offshore support sector signifies continued demand for specialized maritime services. While not directly impacting container or general cargo rates, it reflects ongoing activity in the energy sector, which can indirectly influence demand for project cargo and heavy-lift services related to oil and gas infrastructure development and maintenance. The stability offered by such agreements can also free up other vessel types in the broader market, potentially affecting capacity in adjacent segments.
