Shearwater Geoservices, a Norwegian offshore seismic vessel operator, has secured a contract from ExxonMobil for a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) seismic program. The work will take place in the Stabroek Block, located offshore Guyana. This two-month project specifically involves source-only seismic acquisition, which is essential for a baseline DAS reservoir surveillance survey within the Yellowtail development area. The company has deployed its vessel, the SW Empress, for these operations.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this contract signifies ongoing activity in the offshore energy sector, particularly in Guyana. Such projects generate demand for specialized vessel movements, potentially impacting port congestion and requiring specific handling for project cargo and equipment. Forwarders should anticipate continued requirements for heavy-lift and oversized cargo transport to support similar offshore developments in the region. The specialized nature of seismic survey equipment also means strict adherence to customs and import regulations in Guyana, which forwarders must manage for timely delivery.
