Safeen Drydocks, a joint venture between AD Ports Group and Premier Marine Engineering Services operating under Noatum Maritime, has announced new vessel construction contracts worth AED1.3bn ($354m). These awards represent the largest in the company's history and are a significant step towards the United Arab Emirates' ambition to establish itself as a prominent regional shipbuilding center.
This development signals increased maritime activity and investment in the Gulf region. For freight forwarders, this could imply future enhancements in regional shipping capabilities and potentially new vessel types entering service, which might influence capacity and routing options in the long term. The expansion of shipbuilding capacity in the UAE could also lead to more localized maintenance and repair services, potentially reducing turnaround times for vessels operating in the Middle East.
