Royal Caribbean has officially received the *Legend of the Seas*, its third LNG dual-fuel vessel in the Icon Class series. Constructed at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, the ship is prepared for its inaugural European voyages in July 2026, commencing from Barcelona, Spain, for Western Mediterranean routes. Following its European season, the *Legend of the Seas* will transit to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in November to begin Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries.
This delivery follows the *Icon of the Seas*, the first vessel in this class, which was handed over in November 2023. The integration of LNG dual-fuel technology into Royal Caribbean's fleet signifies a strategic move towards reducing environmental impact and complying with evolving maritime emissions regulations.
For freight forwarders, while this news directly concerns the cruise sector, it underscores the broader maritime industry's increasing adoption of alternative fuels like LNG. This trend can influence bunker availability and pricing in key ports, potentially impacting operational costs and routing decisions for cargo vessels that also utilize LNG. Increased demand for LNG bunkering infrastructure could lead to more widespread availability and potentially more competitive pricing in the long term, benefiting all types of LNG-powered vessels.
