RIKON has successfully implemented its proprietary RROS remote control system on two 40-tonne rail-mounted gantry cranes at the Valencia-Font de Sant Lluís intermodal terminal in Spain. This project represents the initial commercial deployment of RIKON's in-house Remote Operation System (RROS) for container handling equipment. The system is designed to allow operators to control cranes remotely, enhancing efficiency and potentially improving safety within the terminal environment.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies a step towards increased automation and potentially faster turnaround times at intermodal facilities. Remote crane operations can lead to more consistent performance and reduced human error, which could translate into improved schedule reliability for inland container movements. While the immediate impact on rates is unlikely, enhanced terminal efficiency can contribute to overall supply chain fluidity and potentially mitigate future congestion, which is beneficial for planning and cost management.
