Purus Marine is reportedly increasing its liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier fleet by placing an order for a new vessel with Samsung Heavy Industries. The South Korean shipbuilder announced a contract valued at approximately $252 million for a single 174,000 cubic meter LNG newbuild. The delivery of this vessel is anticipated in January 2029.
This order signifies Purus Marine's continued investment in its gas carrier segment, reflecting ongoing demand in the LNG shipping market. The company has been actively growing its fleet, and this latest acquisition reinforces its position in the sector.
For freight forwarders and shippers, an expanding LNG fleet indicates a stable and potentially growing capacity for gas transportation. While this specific order is for 2029, it contributes to the long-term supply of specialized vessels, which can influence future freight rates and availability for LNG shipments. It signals confidence in the sustained need for gas logistics.
