The Port of Valencia has successfully implemented a new passenger border control system, making it the first port in Spain to align with the European Union's Entry/Exit System (EES). This infrastructure was developed by the Port Authority of Valencia and received 75% co-financing from the EU, underscoring its strategic importance for European border management.
This development is significant for freight forwarders and logistics professionals, particularly those involved in multimodal transport that includes passenger ferry services. While not directly impacting cargo operations, improved passenger flow and border security at a major port like Valencia can indirectly contribute to overall port efficiency and reduce potential bottlenecks that might affect adjacent cargo handling. It also signals a broader trend towards enhanced digital integration and security protocols at European ports, which could eventually extend to cargo processes.
The system aims to streamline the processing of non-EU citizens entering and exiting the Schengen Area, improving both security and efficiency. This initiative positions Valencia as a leader in adopting advanced border management technologies within the European port network.
