The Port of Cork has announced the commencement of a new direct container shipping route to the United States East Coast, marked by the inaugural sailing of the CMA CGM LOUGA. This new service, named the CMA CGM Panama Direct, will provide direct links from Cork to key U.S. ports, specifically New York and Savannah.
This development significantly strengthens container shipping and transatlantic trade connectivity between Ireland and the United States. For freight forwarders and shippers, this new direct service offers improved transit times and potentially greater schedule reliability for cargo moving between Ireland and the US East Coast. It could also reduce reliance on transshipment hubs, streamlining supply chains and potentially lowering overall logistics costs. The direct connection is expected to enhance efficiency for Irish exporters and importers engaging with the American market.
