ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group and Hanwha Ocean have officially launched "Project Trident," a €1.35 billion investment strategy aimed at revitalizing the Elefsina shipyard in Greece. This substantial financial commitment is intended to convert the shipyard into a prominent regional center for shipbuilding, logistics, and defense production.
This strategic alliance seeks to bolster Greece's industrial footprint and create a modern, multi-faceted facility capable of handling complex maritime and defense projects. For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development could signify increased demand for specialized cargo handling, particularly for heavy-lift and project cargo related to shipbuilding components and defense equipment. It may also lead to enhanced port infrastructure and a more robust supply chain network in the Eastern Mediterranean, potentially offering new routing options or increased capacity for certain types of shipments. The long-term impact could include a more dynamic regional logistics ecosystem.
The investment is expected to drive significant economic activity in the region, creating jobs and attracting further ancillary services. The focus on defense manufacturing also suggests a stable, long-term pipeline of work for the shipyard.
