ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group has entered into a significant agreement with Antipollution, a subsidiary of V Group, for the design and construction of four environmentally friendly vessels in Greece. The deal, which includes an option for an additional four ships, was formalized during the Posidonia 2026 maritime exhibition, with Greece's Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, in attendance. This collaboration represents a strategic move to enhance Greece's shipbuilding capabilities and contribute to the development of a more sustainable maritime fleet.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signals a growing trend towards greener shipping solutions. While these specific vessels are likely for specialized services rather than mainstream container or bulk transport, the investment in eco-friendly shipbuilding reflects increasing regulatory pressure and shipper demand for reduced environmental impact. This could lead to more carriers investing in similar vessels or retrofitting existing fleets, potentially influencing future vessel availability and operational costs as the industry transitions to lower-emission alternatives.
