Don Davis, currently General Manager of Global Marine Assurance at Chevron Shipping Company, is set to become the new Managing Director of the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) on July 1. He will join OCIMF on secondment from Chevron. Davis brings more than three decades of experience in various maritime sectors, including tanker, barge, marine terminal, and offshore vessel operations. He is already familiar with OCIMF, having represented Chevron on its board for the past five years.
He will succeed Karen Davis, who will remain with the organization until the end of June to ensure a seamless leadership transition.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this appointment signifies a continuation of OCIMF's focus on safety and environmental standards within the oil and gas shipping industry. While not directly impacting immediate rates or capacity, changes in leadership at influential bodies like OCIMF can subtly influence future operational guidelines, vessel vetting processes, and safety protocols, which in turn affect compliance requirements and potentially the cost of doing business for carriers involved in hydrocarbon transport. Forwarders dealing with project cargo or specialized shipments for the energy sector should stay informed of any evolving standards that might stem from this leadership change.
