Nortrans Offshore, based in Singapore, has finalized a two-year charter agreement with SBM Offshore for its semi-submersible flotel, Nor Spirit. This 2015-built vessel, equipped with DP3 dynamic positioning, is designated to provide maintenance and safety support for life-extension operations on the FPSOs (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading units) Saxi Batuque and Mondo.
These FPSOs are currently deployed in Block 15 offshore Angola and are managed by SBM Offshore under a lease and operate contract with Esso. The charter underscores the continuous demand for specialized offshore support vessels to maintain and extend the operational lifespan of critical energy infrastructure.
For freight forwarders, this development signifies sustained activity in the offshore oil and gas sector, particularly in Angola. While not directly impacting container or general cargo rates, it indicates ongoing demand for project logistics, heavy-lift services, and specialized equipment transport to support such offshore projects. Forwarders involved in the energy sector should note the long-term commitment, suggesting stable project cargo volumes for the duration of the charter.
