Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has launched its Phoenix service at the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) within the Port of Rijeka, Croatia. This strategic move establishes a direct shipping route between Rijeka and the Far East, marking a notable improvement in the port's international connectivity.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development means increased options for direct services to and from the Far East via the Northern Adriatic. The enhanced connectivity could lead to more competitive transit times and potentially more stable capacity for cargo moving through the region. It also positions Rijeka as a stronger alternative to other Adriatic ports, offering shippers greater flexibility in their supply chain routing.
This expansion is expected to bolster Rijeka's ambition to become a leading container gateway in the Adriatic, potentially challenging other established ports like Trieste. The direct link is likely to attract more cargo volumes, benefiting regional logistics and trade.
