Mermaid Maritime, an offshore specialist based in Thailand, has established a joint venture with DS Global Offshore Engineering. This new entity, named DS Mermaid, is headquartered in Singapore and will serve as the investment and operational vehicle for the reactivation and subsequent deployment of the Mermaid Commander, a diving support vessel (DSV) that was previously laid up.
This collaboration signifies a strategic effort to bring specialized offshore assets back into active service. For freight forwarders and supply chain analysts, while not directly impacting container or general cargo rates, this development signals activity in the offshore energy sector. Increased demand for such vessels can indicate new project starts or expansions in offshore exploration and construction, which might indirectly influence demand for project cargo logistics and specialized heavy-lift services in the region.
The reactivation of the Mermaid Commander will enable its future commercial deployment, likely supporting various offshore projects. This move could lead to increased capacity for specialized subsea operations and potentially create opportunities for related logistics services in the offshore supply chain.
