Menzies Aviation and FlyORO have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding, focusing on expanding the supply and distribution of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Menzies will leverage its extensive fuel operations expertise and its network of European airports to facilitate safer and more efficient processes for SAF blending, storage, and final delivery to aircraft. This initiative is designed to assist airlines in accessing compliant and cost-effective SAF, particularly as regulatory pressures increase.
The collaboration comes as the aviation industry faces stricter environmental regulations, including the ReFuelEU Aviation initiative and the UK SAF Mandate, which require airlines to incorporate a growing percentage of SAF into their fuel mix. FlyORO's AlphaLite™ technology, already operational in Australia, will play a key role in supporting these efforts by providing advanced solutions for SAF handling.
For freight forwarders and air cargo operations managers, this partnership signals a potential improvement in the availability and cost-effectiveness of SAF. Increased SAF supply can help airlines meet their decarbonization targets, which may translate into more stable and potentially lower surcharges related to sustainability efforts in the long term. Enhanced SAF infrastructure at key European airports could also contribute to greater operational reliability for air cargo carriers committed to green logistics, mitigating potential disruptions related to fuel sourcing and compliance.
