Liebherr has been awarded a contract to deliver seven ship-to-shore (STS) cranes for the new Sparrows Point Container Terminal (SPCT) in Baltimore, Maryland. This facility is currently under development by Tradepoint Atlantic and Terminal Investment Limited (TiL). The 168-acre terminal project is noted as one of the largest privately funded container terminal developments within the United States.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the addition of new, modern STS cranes at the Port of Baltimore signifies a future increase in container handling efficiency and capacity. This development could lead to improved vessel turnaround times and potentially more direct service options to and from Baltimore, enhancing supply chain reliability for shippers utilizing this gateway. Increased capacity at a major East Coast port can help alleviate congestion in the broader region, offering an alternative for cargo flows.
