Malaysian offshore vessel owner Keyfield International has announced the acquisition of a 2014-built anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel for $7.35 million in an all-cash transaction. This strategic purchase is part of the company's ongoing fleet expansion efforts.
The vessel, which has previously operated in various regions including Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, and Bangladesh, will be renamed Keyfield Joyful. Its deployment is anticipated in the second half of 2026, contributing to Keyfield's operational capacity in the offshore sector.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals involved in the offshore energy sector, this acquisition signifies a potential increase in available support vessel capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. While not directly impacting container or general cargo rates, a larger AHTS fleet can enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of project cargo movements for offshore installations, drilling support, and subsea operations. This could lead to more robust options for heavy-lift and specialized marine transport requirements for energy projects.
