Kalmar has announced a new order from C. Steinweg – Handelsveem B.V. for two electric reachstackers. These units are intended to bolster cargo handling capabilities at Steinweg's multipurpose and breakbulk terminals in Rotterdam. The order was finalized in Kalmar's second-quarter 2026 intake, with the equipment expected to be delivered during the first quarter of 2027. This acquisition also includes a Kalmar Care service agreement.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies a continued trend towards electrification in port equipment. The deployment of electric reachstackers can contribute to reduced emissions and noise pollution at the terminal, potentially improving operational efficiency and working conditions. While not directly impacting rates or capacity in the short term, such investments reflect a broader industry shift towards sustainability, which may influence future port service offerings and environmental compliance requirements.
