The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) has announced that construction on a new vehicle berth at its Blount Island Marine Terminal is now 50% complete. This new facility, designated Berth 21, is designed to expand the port's capabilities for handling roll-on/roll-off (Ro/Ro) cargo, specifically automobiles. It is anticipated to be finished and ready for use in early 2027, becoming the third dedicated vehicle berth at Blount Island.
This development is part of a larger US$60 million investment aimed at modernizing and expanding JAXPORT's infrastructure to accommodate growing volumes of automotive shipments. The port is a key gateway for vehicle imports and exports in the Southeastern United States.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this expansion signifies increased capacity and potentially improved efficiency for automotive logistics through JAXPORT. The addition of a third dedicated berth should reduce vessel waiting times and enhance the overall flow of vehicle cargo, offering more reliable scheduling for shippers moving cars, trucks, and heavy equipment. This investment reinforces JAXPORT's position as a critical hub for the automotive sector, potentially attracting new services and volumes.
