German shipowner Hermann Lohmann Bereederung has finalized its departure from the container shipping market with the sale of its remaining two feeder vessels, the 1,368 TEU ice-class sister ships Marina L and Theodor. The buyer is Dubai-based Lila Global. This strategic move means Lohmann's fleet will now exclusively consist of multipurpose vessels.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies a minor consolidation within the feeder vessel market. While not a major shift in global capacity, the acquisition by Lila Global could potentially lead to minor adjustments in feeder service networks or vessel deployment in regions where these ships operate. The focus on multipurpose vessels by Lohmann suggests a continued commitment to project cargo and specialized breakbulk services, which might offer stability or new opportunities in that niche.
The financial terms of this transaction were not publicly disclosed.
