HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has announced a new contract for the construction of two Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs). The agreement, valued at 360.7 billion won, was signed with a European shipping company, whose identity has not been disclosed. This order signifies ongoing investment in the specialized gas carrier market.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development indicates a steady expansion of the global gas carrier fleet. While VLGCs primarily transport LPG and other liquefied gases, their increased availability can indirectly influence overall vessel capacity and shipbuilding trends. A growing fleet suggests sustained demand for gas transportation, which could impact the broader energy logistics sector and potentially free up other vessel types for different cargo if capacity shifts. It also highlights the continued focus on specialized vessel types in the shipbuilding industry.
