Hapag-Lloyd has announced a collaboration with WiseTech Global to facilitate the issuance of Electronic Bills of Lading (eBLs) through WiseTech's Galileo platform. This initiative is a key step towards the carrier's ambitious goal of achieving complete eBL adoption across all its shipments by 2030.
The first eBL generated through this new system was successfully issued for GEODIS, a client utilizing WiseTech's CargoWise platform. This transaction confirmed the seamless digital transfer of a verified electronic document from Hapag-Lloyd to the freight forwarder, underscoring the operational viability of the new digital process.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies a move towards greater digitalization in documentation, potentially streamlining processes, reducing administrative burdens, and enhancing security. The widespread adoption of eBLs can accelerate customs clearance, improve supply chain visibility, and mitigate risks associated with physical document handling, such as loss or delays. Forwarders working with Hapag-Lloyd will increasingly encounter and utilize these digital documents, requiring integration with their own systems or adaptation to carrier-provided platforms.
