Jan Hein Meissner has been appointed as the new harbour master for Groningen Seaports, effective May 8, 2026. In this role, he will be responsible for the operational management and safety of the ports of Delfzijl and Eemshaven. He takes over from Pieter van der Wal, who has moved into a different position within the port authority since May 1.
Meissner is a long-standing figure within Groningen Seaports, having been associated with the organization for nearly 25 years. His extensive experience within the port environment is expected to ensure a smooth transition and continued effective management of port operations.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this appointment signifies continuity in port leadership. Changes in key port personnel can sometimes lead to shifts in operational priorities or communication channels, but given Meissner's long tenure, significant immediate changes are unlikely. Forwarders utilizing Delfzijl and Eemshaven can expect stable port services and regulatory adherence under his leadership.
