Evos Rotterdam has officially started construction on its methanol and ethanol storage expansion project within the Port of Rotterdam. This initiative involves building five new storage tanks, which will collectively add 67,500 cubic meters of gross capacity. The project also includes a new pump station and a dedicated jetty, developed in collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam.
This expansion is designed to enhance Evos Rotterdam's capability to handle methanol and ethanol for its industrial customer base. Crucially, it also aims to support the emerging market for cleaner, low-carbon fuels, particularly in the maritime sector. The facility is expected to be fully operational by early 2028.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signals a future increase in the availability and handling capacity for alternative marine fuels like methanol in a major European bunkering hub. This could contribute to more stable pricing and better access for vessels adopting these fuels, potentially influencing carrier routing and vessel choices for shippers committed to decarbonization. The enhanced infrastructure at Rotterdam reinforces its role as a key port for green fuel transitions, which may affect long-term supply chain strategies and bunker procurement decisions.
