Euroseas Ltd. has confirmed an order for two additional 1,800 TEU containerships, exercising options with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering. These new vessels are slated for delivery in December 2028 and March 2029, respectively. Each ship is priced at approximately US$32.26 million and will be funded through a mix of debt and the company's own capital.
This move reflects a strategic decision by Euroseas to modernize and expand its fleet with fuel-efficient, gearless vessels. The company's ongoing investment in newbuilds suggests a long-term outlook on container shipping demand and a commitment to operational efficiency.
For freight forwarders, this expansion indicates a potential increase in vessel capacity on certain routes in the coming years, particularly for smaller feeder services or regional trades where 1,800 TEU ships are typically deployed. While the impact on immediate capacity and rates will be minimal given the distant delivery dates, it contributes to the overall growth of the global container fleet. This could eventually lead to more stable capacity and potentially competitive rates in specific segments as these vessels enter service.
