Germany-based Eckship has announced a new shipbuilding initiative, with plans to add as many as six 15,200 deadweight tonnage (DWT) heavy-lift vessels to its operational fleet. Deliveries for these new ships are anticipated to commence in the second quarter of 2028.
The vessels are designed with a bridge positioned at the fore, which provides an expansive, unobstructed deck area measuring 139 meters by 23.2 meters. Each ship will be outfitted with two cranes, each capable of lifting 350 tonnes, enhancing their capacity for handling large and complex project cargo.
For freight forwarders and project cargo managers, this fleet expansion signals increased capacity and potentially more flexible scheduling options for oversized and heavy-lift shipments. The enhanced crane capacity and large deck space will be particularly beneficial for projects requiring the transport of substantial industrial components or infrastructure elements. This investment by Eckship could lead to more competitive rates and improved service availability in the heavy-lift segment, especially for routes where such specialized vessels are in high demand.
