Classification society DNV recently introduced version 2 of its Steel Load Planner (SLP V2.0) at the Posidonia trade fair. This self-service application is specifically designed to assist in the complex process of planning the stowage of steel coils, which are considered a demanding minor-bulk cargo.
The initial version of the Steel Load Planner was developed to address the significant challenges associated with safely and efficiently loading steel coils onto vessels. These cargoes require precise planning due to their weight, density, and the need for proper securing to prevent shifting during transit.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this updated tool could lead to more efficient vessel loading times and potentially reduce the risk of cargo damage or shifting during sea transit. Improved planning tools can contribute to better schedule reliability and fewer operational delays related to cargo stowage. Enhanced safety in loading these heavy materials also minimizes potential claims and ensures smoother port operations.
The release of SLP V2.0 indicates DNV's continued commitment to providing digital solutions that enhance safety and operational efficiency within the maritime industry, particularly for specialized cargo types.
