A consortium comprising COSCO SHIPPING Ports, COSCO SHIPPING Bulk, and PTP Ibérica has advanced with a €144.6 million project to establish a new multipurpose terminal in Tarragona, Spain. This development is set to significantly enhance the port's capabilities by integrating diverse cargo handling operations, including containers, vehicles, RoRo, and rail freight. The terminal will specifically link these services through the Andalucía Wharf and La Boella areas.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this new terminal represents a potential improvement in supply chain efficiency for cargo moving through the Mediterranean. The integration of multiple transport modes (sea, road, rail) at a single facility could streamline transshipment processes, reduce handling times, and offer more flexible routing options for various cargo types, particularly for automotive and project cargo. The enhanced rail connectivity also suggests improved inland distribution within Spain and potentially to wider European markets.
