Compania de Puertos Asociados (Compas) has recently implemented a Liebherr LHM 600 mobile harbor crane at its facility in Cartagena, Colombia. This new acquisition represents a significant upgrade, as it is now the most powerful mobile harbor crane operating within the country. The crane boasts an impressive lifting capacity of 104 tonnes and offers a maximum outreach of 61 meters, making it suitable for handling a wide range of cargo.
This investment aims to bolster the terminal's operational efficiency, particularly for container handling operations. For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies improved capacity and potentially faster turnaround times for vessels calling at Cartagena. The enhanced lifting capabilities could also facilitate the handling of heavier or oversized project cargo, though the primary focus mentioned is containers. This upgrade may contribute to Cartagena's competitiveness as a regional logistics hub, potentially attracting more direct calls or larger vessels, which could impact routing decisions and transit times for shipments to and from Colombia.
