CMA CGM has issued notifications regarding the implementation of Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) on several key trade corridors. These surcharges are scheduled to take effect between June 7 and July 1, 2026. Specifically, a US$600 per TEU surcharge will apply to all cargo originating from Asian ports, including Japan, Southeast Asia, and Bangladesh, destined for North Europe, starting June 15, 2026.
For freight forwarders and shippers, these new Peak Season Surcharges signify an increase in operational costs for shipments on the affected routes. Forwarders should anticipate higher rates for cargo moving from Asia to North Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, and North America. This will necessitate adjustments to pricing strategies and client quotations, potentially impacting profit margins if not adequately factored in. The staggered effective dates mean that different routes will see cost increases at slightly different times, requiring careful monitoring of specific trade lane announcements.
