CMA CGM has announced the implementation of new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) for all shipments originating from China and bound for Southern and East African destinations. These surcharges will take effect on June 21, 2026. Specifically, cargo moving from North and Central China to the South African ports of Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town will incur an additional charge of US$450 per TEU. Further details regarding surcharges for shipments from South China to these regions are expected.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this PSS will directly increase the cost of shipping goods from China to Southern and East Africa. It is crucial to factor this additional charge into pricing and budgeting for any upcoming shipments on this trade lane. Given the lead time, forwarders should communicate these changes to their clients promptly to avoid unexpected costs.
