China Marine Bunker Co. (CHIMBUSCO) and Shenergy Group have completed a significant agreement for the procurement of 6,000 tons of green methanol. This transaction is reportedly the largest single green methanol procurement deal in China to date. The agreement was formally signed, and a delivery ceremony was held at the Shanghai Jinshan Vopak Terminal. This development follows CHIMBUSCO's recent addition of the methanol bunkering barge, CHIMBUSCO LV NENG 85, to its fleet on June 5.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this deal signifies a growing commitment to alternative fuels within the Chinese maritime sector. The increased availability of green methanol bunkering services, particularly in key ports like Shanghai and Ningbo where CHIMBUSCO operates, could facilitate more sustainable shipping options for carriers. This might influence vessel routing decisions and potentially lead to new service offerings from carriers focusing on decarbonization, although direct rate impacts for shippers are not immediately clear. It underscores a broader industry trend towards greener supply chains, which forwarders should monitor for future service integration and compliance requirements.
