Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corp., based in Athens, has partnered with CMA CGM in a 50:50 joint venture. This collaboration aims to facilitate the construction, chartering, and operation of a 20,000 cubic meter dual-fuel LNG bunkering vessel (LNGBV). The new entity has already secured a shipbuilding contract with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd. (CIMC SOE) for the vessel's construction. The contract value is reported at $82.8 million, with an anticipated delivery in the third quarter of 2028. This move signifies Capital Clean Energy Carriers' strategic entry into the burgeoning LNG bunkering sector.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development indicates a continued industry shift towards alternative marine fuels. The introduction of more LNG bunkering capacity supports the broader adoption of LNG-powered vessels, potentially influencing future vessel deployment strategies and the availability of greener shipping options. While the vessel's delivery is several years away, it contributes to the long-term infrastructure required for decarbonization in maritime transport. This could eventually lead to more stable pricing for LNG bunkers and expanded routes for LNG-fueled ships, offering forwarders more choices for environmentally conscious clients.
