Energy trading firm BGN has placed an order for two new dual-fuel Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. Each vessel will have a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters and is expected to be delivered in 2029. This latest order signifies a continued strategic investment by BGN in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipping market, bringing their total owned LPG fleet to 19 vessels.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this expansion indicates a growing capacity in the LPG shipping segment. While not directly impacting container or dry bulk rates, an increase in specialized gas carriers could indirectly influence overall vessel availability in shipyards and potentially bunker fuel demand in the long term, especially for dual-fuel vessels. The 2029 delivery timeline suggests a forward-looking strategy, aligning with anticipated future demand for LPG transport and stricter environmental regulations.
