Asyad Drydock, an Omani shipyard, recently announced a significant operational milestone, completing its 2,200th drydocking. This achievement was highlighted at Posidonia 2026, where the company also reported unprecedented levels of activity in its vessel repair and conversion business. The first five months of 2026 saw a more than 10% increase in drydockings compared to the same period in the previous year, building on a foundation of consecutive record-setting years since 2024.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this sustained growth at Asyad Drydock indicates a robust demand for vessel maintenance and upgrades in the region. Increased drydocking activity can sometimes lead to longer lead times for vessel availability, potentially impacting shipping schedules and capacity on certain routes. However, it also reflects a healthy maritime industry with ongoing investment in fleet upkeep and modernization. Forwarders should monitor vessel turnaround times and potential schedule adjustments, especially for carriers utilizing this shipyard, to proactively manage client expectations and optimize routing.
