Ardmore Shipping, a product tanker owner based in Ireland and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, has announced the expansion of its newbuilding program in China. The company has exercised options for two additional 40,500 dwt product and chemical carriers from Wuhu Shipyard, bringing its total orderbook at the Chinese facility to four vessels.
This move signifies Ardmore's commitment to modernizing its fleet and enhancing its capacity for transporting refined petroleum products and chemicals globally. The new vessels are expected to contribute to a more efficient and environmentally compliant fleet.
For freight forwarders and shippers, an expansion in product and chemical tanker capacity could lead to more stable and potentially competitive rates for these specific cargo types in the future. Increased vessel availability might also improve scheduling flexibility for chemical and refined product shipments, though the impact will depend on overall market demand and other fleet developments.
