Acta Marine has taken delivery of the Acta Gemini, a new DP2 construction service operation vessel (CSOV) designed for walk-to-work operations. The vessel was constructed by Tersan Shipyard in Turkey and is now prepared to commence a long-term charter. Its primary role will be to support the ongoing operations at the Sofia offshore wind farm, located in UK waters.
This delivery signifies a continued investment in specialized vessels for the growing offshore wind sector. CSOVs like the Acta Gemini are crucial for the installation, maintenance, and repair of offshore wind turbines, providing accommodation and safe transfer for technicians.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the deployment of such specialized vessels indicates a stable demand for project cargo and heavy-lift services related to offshore wind farm development. While this specific vessel is for operational support, the broader trend suggests ongoing requirements for transporting large components like turbine blades, nacelles, and foundations to marshalling ports. This could lead to sustained opportunities in breakbulk shipping and port logistics in regions with active offshore wind projects, particularly in Europe.
