Technology group ABB has confirmed an agreement to acquire Høglund AS, a marine automation specialist headquartered in Tønsberg. The acquisition is anticipated to conclude in the third quarter of 2026, subject to receiving necessary regulatory approvals. This deal encompasses Høglund's worldwide operations, including its workforce of over 80 employees located in Norway, Poland, Romania, and China. Following the completion of the transaction, the financial details of which were not disclosed, Høglund, currently owned by Eitzen Group, will become part of ABB's Marine & Ports division.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this acquisition signifies a potential consolidation in the marine technology sector. While not directly impacting freight rates or capacity, it could lead to advancements in vessel automation and efficiency, which might indirectly contribute to improved schedule reliability and operational transparency in the long term. Enhanced automation could also streamline port calls and vessel turnaround times, offering marginal gains in supply chain predictability.
